THE ASK:

When these long-time clients purchased a coastal property, they came to Empire not just as a builder—but as the team who had already built their primary residence, and earned their trust along the way. With that trust and a home already built together, they approached us with a simple question: would we take on this next chapter with them?

Capitalizing on the property’s prime location was central to the vision—while integrating the home seamlessly into its picturesque surroundings and creating indoor and outdoor spaces perfectly suited to island life. Luxurious without feeling overly formal, this renovation aimed to cultivate a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, ideal for family  gatherings while slowing down by the sea.

Behind the scenes, this project also showcased the strength of Empire’s project management and communication, as this was a complex project to execute. Coordinated from Calgary, built across provincial borders, all in close collaboration with a U.S.-based designer, with the entire renovation being executed without the clients ever needing to visit the site. With a clear process, strong leadership, and seamless collaboration, we delivered a highly personalized renovation—proving that exceptional custom building doesn’t require constant proximity, just the right team.

THE DELIVERY:

Given the remote island location several ferry rides from our Calgary office, meticulous project management and precise coordination were essential. Frequent virtual design reviews and clear, consistent communication ensured clients felt informed and engaged, even from afar. Utilizing photo-realistic 3D renderings, we provided detailed visualizations, empowering clients to confidently confirm every aspect of the home’s ambitious design before construction commenced.

Our trusted network of skilled tradespeople worked with remarkable precision, as we coordinated logistics for materials and installations with exceptional efficiency. Internally, our longstanding collaboration with both these clients and their designer enabled us to quickly assemble an all-star team that knew how to deliver the level of care and expertise this renovation needed.

Carefully selected interior elements—like the shiplap detailing that extends gracefully across walls and ceilings, backing a colorful ocean-inspired marble fireplace, and sophisticated custom kitchen cabinetry—elevated a home that beautifully echoes its coastal setting.

Exceptional landscaping further integrates the property with its island roots. Thoughtful outdoor amenities include connective paths, walk-out terraces framing breathtaking ocean vistas, a custom outdoor kitchen, a charming greenhouse, and a relaxing sunken hot tub.

Abundant windows bring the outdoors in, capturing the home’s incredible island views while flooding every space—from expansive rooms to cozy corners—with natural light and fresh ocean air.
