THE ASK:

Following the devastating Calgary floods of 2013, these previous Empire clients returned to us, trusting our team to give the home they loved a meaningful second chance. Deeply attached to its picturesque riverside setting and grand architecture, their goal was clear: respect the original character of the home while maximizing its considerable potential. Reviving Riverside Rouge was about far more than a mere remodeling—it was about elevating every aspect of the home. Additionally, our clients valued Empire’s expertise in healthy home construction, wanting to utilize the flexibility that our healthy home building initiative provides, and enhancing their home to fit their needs.

THE DELIVERY:

Before our renovation could begin, this riverside home needed extensive remediation. Empire methodically stripped the property to its bones, thoroughly inspecting and eliminating any lasting flood impacts to ensure the new foundation was healthy, safe, and strong.

With a clean slate, we modernized the home’s overall feel, strategically enhancing its existing structure and spatial flow. This included widening the original openings between the kitchen and great room to create open, airy spaces and improve the home’s functional dynamics.

As the renovation progressed, the conversation naturally turned toward the health of the home—beyond just structural remediation. Drawing on our flexible approach to healthy home construction, we worked with the clients to integrate wellness-focused elements that aligned with their goals and lifestyle. This project became a clear example of how our healthy home philosophy can be tailored to fit a wide range of needs, offering thoughtful options without compromising design or performance.

The home’s standout feature is undoubtedly its striking custom Downsview kitchen—a vibrant nod to a bold red kitchen we had done for these clients previously. Its contemporary reimagining includes luxurious high-gloss finishes and seamlessly integrated panel-ready appliances, boldly reestablishing the kitchen as the vibrant heart of the home.

Another impressive highlight is the breathtaking fireplace situated beneath an expansive library loft, designed to open and elevate the space dramatically. Complemented by dark ceiling beams and matching accents, it creates a stunning focal point that marries form and function beautifully, while leaning into this home’s undeniably grand design.

With abundant storage and carefully integrated appliances concealed behind stunning custom cabinetry, the kitchen showcases thoughtful, streamlined design that perfectly balances everyday convenience and striking aesthetics. In bringing this home back to life, we didn’t just rebuild a house—we helped longtime clients fall in love with their home all over again.
